On the weekend I went shopping with my mom, my sister, my boyfriend and my best friend Rachel and I truly realized my mall withdrawal. Where I live has a serious lack of shopping so I literally had not been in a “real” mall for probably 5 months. I went mainly to make a dent in my Christmas shopping, but I couldn’t help myself in Sephora. It used to really overwhelm me so I would never take the time to look (anyone who knows me knows that patience is definitely not a trait I possess), but this time I felt like I could actually navigate. I wandered around and drooled for a few minutes before I came across the palette I’m reviewing today (SPOILER ALERT: I BOUGHT IT haha). It’s the Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things limited edition holiday palette. Now right away this obviously deviates from my usual make-up on a budget motto, but I used a coupon that I got for signing up for Sephora’s Beauty Insider emails, so that lessened my guilt. As well, for high end make-up, it’s still good value because it came with a ton of stuff for the price. The palette includes 20 eyeshadows, 2 full size blushes, 2 full size bronzers, 1 full-sized lip product, a trial size of mascara and a cute travel case. So I consider that to be a lot.
Here’s the bag it comes with, which is big enough to house the palette, which I love. As silly as it may be, the packaging for this palette is so beautiful. It’s bold, but still pretty. The second super unique thing about this palette is the theme of the palette. It’s holiday and Sound of Music themed, which you’ll see when I talk about the shades in the palette.
I had to 🙂
The shades that come in the palette are so pigmented. I love that there are some bright jewel tone shades included like Blue Satin Sashes (if you’re not getting the Sound of Music references, review now), Ooh La Orchid and Party Time, but also some really beautiful neutrals. It has tons of shades to create lots of looks. For the price, versatility is something I considered. I’m not going to pay for something if I think that it’s potential is limited. I used the Buche de Noel today over the Bad to the Bronze Maybelline Color Tattoo with Dark Chocolate in the corner and crease…so pretty and sparkly!
On top of the gorgeous shadows, they also include 2 each of bronzers and blushes. So far I have tried the Melt into Spring blush and it’s a pretty warm coral. I find that it really warms up my face, especially since I’m super pale right now. I have also tried the Chocolate Soleil bronzer, which is a Too Faced signature item, not exclusive to this palette and not only is it completely matte…it smells like chocolate!! Who doesn’t want to smell chocolate when they’re dusting their face? Could it be more festive? No, it could not. Awesome. I have yet to try the others, but I’m itching to do so. There are not enough days for the amount of looks I want to create 🙁
In addition to the palette, it also includes a Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb in the color Bee Sting, which is a shade exclusive for this palette. I can honestly say this is so awesome that I will spend the money to get more of these. And that says a lot because even though these aren’t cheap, I still am. This is a tint as well as a lip plumper and man do these work. I have naturally thin lips and this made an immediate difference on my face. The colour is fairly light which I like because I can put it on and it still looks natural for everyday. For bolder looks, I plan on purchasing these in some of their other shades. Definitely a great part of this palette.
The next thing they include is a small trial type size of their Better Than Sex Mascara. This is the one thing in the palette I’m still deciding on. Solely judging this mascara, it’s very good, but when you include the price, it’s not worth it to me. If it was priced on par with drug store mascara, I would definitely buy it again because it does great lash separation and volume. But at $29 a tube for the full sized, I think I’ll stick to drug store since there are many brands that are close enough in my opinion. But I will definitely use the one I have. As for the claim that it’s ‘better than sex’ I’ll leave that up to you 😉
This is a high end product and since every dollar counts, I have a few tips before buying:
1. Research, Research, research. Just because it’s high end does not mean it’s high quality.
2. Test it out- in the store, swatch and see what you think, don’t take what’s in the package for what it will look like on your skin.
3. Consider how you’ll use it- there are so many bright, beautiful palettes, but if you don’t know if you’ll get use out of it, you should reconsider. Think of the looks you want to create.
4. Ask for a sample- This is not always possible, but for some products, you can get samples to try it before making the investment. For example, I got a sample of Benefit Erase Paste so that I can see if it’s worth the hype before I drop $32.
5. Don’t feed into the hype- Often new products get huge hype, but if it’s not for you or something you’ll use, save your money for something that it better suited to you.
6. Ask for help!- the best part about high-end stores is that their staff is usually fairly knowledgeable about their products. They can help you choose shades, find products etc.
I hope you enjoyed this post and Merry Christmas all!
