December Favourites!

December 28, 2013

Hey Everyone!

Since December is coming to an end along with 2013 (already!?) I’ve decided to do a December favourites post. I love reading and watching these type of posts so I figured I’d try it out. I’ve been incorporating lots of new products into my routine and I have found myself reaching for a few things over and over. Here goes nothing!

My first favourite came from my ELF Haul that I got a few weeks ago. In the haul I mentioned that I had picked up 3 of ELF’s Studio Cream Eyeliners while they were 50% off and I have really been enjoying it in the colour Black. Not terribly original I know, but this product is super smooth and doesn’t smudge. Simple, but it’s amazing how many gel/cream or liquid liners can’t fill the basic criteria. I was using Maybelline Master Duo Liquid Liner before and it was horrible. I couldn’t get enough product on the tip to line my whole eye making the line always uneven, so I was glad to replace it. A little goes a long way of this product and at $3 it’s a steal.

My next favourite has been my go to since the day I bought it. It’s the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. This is great because it covers as well as brightens. It claims an “Anti-Fatigue” effect and it definitely fulfills that promise in my opinion. I use this under my eyes and to cover any redness or blemishes and it works great for all purposes. I recently got a sample of Benefit Erase Paste and it does not cover nearly as well as this. I found myself reaching to put this over the Erase Paste whenever I tested it, which is awesome because the Wake Me Up Concealer is less than $8 vs. $32 for the Erase Paste. Overall this is something I can see myself using for a long time.

Shade- Very Light/Fair

The next product also came from my most recent ELF trip and it’s the Studio HD Blush in the colour Headliner. This is the product I find myself using when I know I won’t be wearing much makeup because it makes you look naturally flushed. The shade I ordered is super pigmented in a very pretty rosy colour. You don’t need very much since it is so pigmented and I will say that the pump does give too much, but I like this enough to ignore that. I find that the best way to apply this is with a small stipple brush so that it goes on soft and blended. For $3 this is a must have in my opinion if you’re shopping for ELF products.

The next couple of products were gifts that I got for Christmas.

The first gift was a Quo Eyelash Curler from my friend Tracy. I mentioned a few posts ago that I had never found an eyelash curler that worked for me, but now I can actually say I’ve found one :). It curls all my lashes without pinching me. If I take the hair dryer to heat this up for a couple seconds it gives even better curl. I’m so glad to have gotten this as a present.

The last gift in this review is one of my most favourite Christmas gifts I got this year. My boyfriend got me the Sigma Performance Eyes Kit and it is so amazing!! I have never had good quality brushes before, so every time I use them I’m amazed at how much difference these brushes make. Honestly you could buy super expensive products but if they aren’t applied well, you’re wasting your money, brushes are worth the money. I plan on reviewing this kit in full, so I won’t go into full depth on this post, but I had to mention them because they are so so awesome. Currently Sigma is offering a coupon code for 10% off on your first purchase with them. (WELCOME10OFF). I definitely plan on ordering more brushes at some point.

My next favourite is a skincare product. The first one is the Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer. I have dry skin and this has done wonders since I got a several weeks ago. I use this 2-3 times a day after I wash my face and my skin has never been softer. I really hope they make a big bottle because this is almost gone. It doesn’t cause irritation or breakouts so I plan on sticking with this for a long time. It doesn’t have any strong fragrance which is nice because that can be irritating for some people. This line has several other products and I plan on trying those soon, so we’ll see how that goes.

My next favourite is a pretty recent purchase. I recently blogged about the Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things palette that I purchased from Sephora. I have had a couple weeks to use it and I can honestly say that I haven’t reached for any other eyeshadow since I got this. It has so many possibilities. In this post I’ll talk specifically about the parts of this palette I’ve been loving. I’ll say first that there isn’t a thing I’ve used in this palette that I haven’t liked, but there are a few that stand out. I’ll include a picture so that you can see what I’m referring to. If you want a full review on this palette, click here!

The first shade I seem to be using quite a bit is in the very top right of the palette and it’s called Dark Chocolate. It’s one of the 5 matte shades in the palette and it’s perfect for darkening the outer corner or adding depth to an every day look. The second favourite is Crisp Apple Strudel (what a great name) and it’s the 3rd shade in the 2nd row from the bottom. It looks really good right in the middle of my lid to brighten up a bronze or brown eye look. The third one is Moon on Their Wings, which is in the first row, right next to Dark Chocolate. This is super shimmery and is neutral enough to go with a bunch of different looks. I have been using this to line my bottom lash line close to the inner corner to brighten it up.

Like I mentioned in my review, the bottom of this palette is blushes and bronzers.

I have had a chance to use all of these and I have no complaints, but there are 2 that I have used almost everyday since I got this. The first is the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (top right), I said how much I liked this in my review and here I am mentioning it again…it’s just that awesome! I’ll keep it short since I already talked about it, but it is all it’s cracked up to be. It’s completely matte and not orange whatsoever, perfect for contouring. Worth every penny!

Next out of the 2 blushes in this palette I have been loving Melt Into Spring (Bottom left). It is a pretty soft coral that adds warmth to my face. I can picture this being perfect for spring. The entire palette was well worth the money.

That sums it up! If there is anything you’ve been loving let me know in the comments below 🙂 I’m going to be doing some shopping and I would love some input on great products.
