May 2014 Favourites

May 26, 2014

Hey Everyone!

It’s favouritesssss time! I know I’m a few days early, but I have known what I was going to include for so long already, so I figured why not? Despite the fact that my May has been incredibly boring, I do have quite a few favourites from this month. I have had this month off while looking for a job, so that has given me lots of time to play with makeup, just not many places to wear it haha. Let’s get to it!

Skincare

I have a couple of skincare favourites from this month, mainly to deal with serious skin dryness.

Avene Thermal Spring Water

This first favourite is from my May Ipsy Bag! This is magic in a bottle. I have already found so many uses for this and I’m going to need to stock up. First of all I use this to hydrate my face. I spray this on before my night cream and it really adds extra moisture. Plus it’s a super fine cool mist so it feels great. Then this weekend I discovered that it’s very soothing for itchy skin. I went to an outside birthday party and a bunch of us were eaten alive by mosquitoes, including my cousin who is only two. She was definitely itchy around her feet, so I sprayed her feet and she stopped scratching. I also used it on my own bug bites and it made such a difference! I think this will be great on sun burns as well. It is such a great product.

Vineyard Peach Body Butter

This next favourite won’t probably comes a big shock. It’s the body butter I picked up right at the end of April from The Body Shop. Number one, this smells amazing. Number two, this is super moisturizing. It has really dealt with the dry skin I had left over from the winter months. I am flying through this, so I have had to limit myself to every other night before bed or it would already be gone!

Polysporin Visible Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy

If you follow me on Twitter (@Irantyoulisten) then you would know that I have been struggling with seriously, dry cracked lips. I tried everything it felt like to get rid of it. I tried medicated lip balm, Burt’s Bees, Coconut Oil and Polysporin Ointment- nothing worked. So I headed to Wal-Mart to look for something stronger. I picked up this Polysporin Overnight Treatment and figured I’d give it a shot. It looks like cream for your lips and it’s amazing. In one night, the dryness was gone completely. I also gave some to my mom to try for dry lips and the beginning of a possible cold sore and that disappeared in one night as well. I’m really happy with this product and I’m going to keep using it to maintain the moisture. If you have dry lips, try this it really works.

Makeup

I (of course) have several makeup favourites from the month of May.

Palettes

I have been obsessing over 2 eye shadow palettes this month. I have been reaching for these constantly, I pretty much can’t get enough. I did tutorials with both of them so if you missed them, click here and here!

The first palette favourite is the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

If I decided on an ‘eye look’ at any point this month, I went right for this. By eye look I mean focus on the eyes, light on the lips. This is such a versatile palette, you can create a huge range of looks from light to downright smokey. It has the most perfect browns for my skin tone and shades that I have nothing else like. In particular I have been loving Cherry Cordial which is a burgundy shade because it’s very complimentary to my eye colour and Creme Brulee, a pretty gold.

The next palette that I can’t put down is the original Naked Palette.

I can honestly say even having this only 1 month that it might be my favourite out of the trio. It is super versatile, perfect for basic looks or something a little more pumped up. I have been loving this to create soft eye looks with bright lips, like I did in my most recent tutorial. It also has the perfect browns for my skin tone, for both the crease and as a transition shade. If you’re looking for the perfect neutral palette, this is it. OBSESSED.

Nars Casino Bronzer

The fact that this made it into my favourite is actually hilarious to me. Why? I picked this shade up by accident. I was going through the Nars display in Sephora to pick up Laguna. I saw a bunch in it’s section, so I picked one up and went on my way. Well turns out I picked out the one Casino in the Laguna section. When I got home I was annoyed, thinking I wouldn’t like this shade, well spoiler I love it. This bronzer is much deeper than any of the others I have and it’s perfect to fake a bit of summer colour. It has a tiny bit of shimmer, but it doesn’t show up on your face so I use it mainly for contouring. It does take a bit of work to blend it, but it’s worth it because the colour is the perfect shade for spring and summer. This does not show up remotely orange on my skin, just a deep brown.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Vivids Lipsticks

If you’ve been following me for a while then you know I have been loving bright lips for spring. Specifically I have been reaching for the Vivids lipsticks. They are bright, pigmented and long wearing. I have three shades in this formula and I actually want them all haha. The shades I have are Hot Plum, Vibrant Mandarine and Vivid Rose.

For this month I have discovered a new favourite highlighter. I was hearing good things about this so I decided to try it out and obviously it worked out well, this is a favourites post after all haha. This is like 2 highlighters in one, with one light peach side and a much darker bronzey-peach side. I use the lighter side as a highlight and the darker side as a blush topper, for extra glow. I love glowy skin, so highlighters are a must have makeup item for me.

So there you have it, my May Favourites. Let me know in the comments what you’ve been loving this month!

I want that too faced palette. How’s the longevity of the shadows?

Ya, it’s really awesome. They last a long time on me (12+ hours), but I don’t have oily eyelids.

Do you use a primer? I’m sure that would help. Or a setting spray.

            Yes both and always

Hmm. They are great quality eyeshadows, so it might not be a problem.
