What’s in my Travel Makeup Bag?

October 14, 2014

Hi Everyone!

Today we’re going to take a look inside my travel makeup bag.  Thanksgiving weekend just passed in Canada, so I had to figure out what to bring with me. I have the worst time separating from my makeup collection and picking what to pack so these are the items that made the final cut. It’s not exactly light packing, but I think I did pretty well!

Foundation was one area of my packing that was a pretty easy decision. Nars Sheer Glow has been my go-to since the day I got it so that was a no-brainer and the Make Up For Ever HD is new so I’m still testing it out. I’m loving both and I knew that this would cover my needs as long as I needed.

Ummm…who needs 4 concealers for traveling? I’ll admit that I didn’t do so well packing light for concealer, but lately I seem to have impossible dark circles leading to quite the intense routine. They do each have a purpose though, so it’s not all for nothing. The Lise Watier not only has a shade that matches me, but it has some colour correcting shades that are helpful for blemishes or balancing out darkness. The LA Girl Pro Conceal is a recent add, and I’m still testing it out so I brought it along to continue my testing. The Glamoflauge is my heavy duty stuff for serious concealing needs haha. And lastly the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my brightening concealer that I use for highlighting.

Contouring and Highlighting Products

I really can’t skip contouring and highlighting, it’s a routine practice in my makeup routine. I packed my Anastasia Contour Kit since I use it every single day and am pretty lost without it. It’s just so handy. Not only can I set my under eyes with it, but if I forgot bronzer it could sub in for that too. I did remember a bronzer, which is Nars Laguna for this trip. This is a great shade for my skin and adds some dimension and shading to my fair skin. To highlight I packed the MAC Prep and Prime Pen in Radiant Rose and the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. At first I wasn’t a huge fan of the Prep and Prime Pen, but I’ve played around with it and used on top of the cheekbones is a great brightening base to highlight the face. I’m actually surprised I only brought one powder highlighter, but I have been glued to this highlighter so it was enough.

I am pretty blush obsessed. It’s one of my favourite parts of makeup and I generally over pack in this area. By including my MAC blush palette I have (sort of) solved that issue. I have been reaching for these blushes tons lately so these were plenty.  the Hourglass blush in Luminous Flush is really natural looking and pretty neutral, so it’s very versatile for traveling.

MAC Blushes (top row)- Margin, Peaches, Melba (bottom row)- Fleur Power, Springsheen, Cantaloupe.

Eye Products

Moving on to eye products, I think I did very well to not go crazy here. For shadows I just packed the Lorac Pro and Pro 2, which has everything I need. It has mattes, shimmers and plenty of neutrals which is what I go for most of the time. I also packed my MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre to use as a base and shadow ‘primer’. For liner, I packed 2 black pen liners and one flesh toned. I packed 2 black because I like them each for a different purpose. The Jordana Fabuliner (black packaging, right) has a very stiff tip which I love for winged liner. The Lise Watier has a flexible tip which isn’t my favourite for winged liner but it’s blacker so I prefer it if I’m just doing a very thin liner to define my eyes. The Tarte nude/ flesh toned liner is just to brighten up my eyes. I wasn’t using a nude liner in my waterline as much for a bit, but I’m getting back into it and it makes a huge difference.

Mascara and Brow Products

Of course I can’t travel without mascara and brow products. For mascara I packed the Jordana Best Volume Extreme Mascara and the ELF Mascara Primer. For only $3 I’m always amazed at how good the ELF Primer is. It just makes any good mascara amazing. For brow products I stuck with my staples, my ABH Dipbrow and the ABH Clear Brow Gel. I have stuck to this routine for a long time now and I love it. Brows are so important to your face and the dipbrow just really fills them in nice and defined, but with a light hand it won’t look like sharpie brows.

Lip Products

Lip products are one area that I ALWAYS over pack. So for this trip I decided to go super light. Some light options and one dark option and that’s it. For the dark option I packed MAC’s Diva and the Jordana Easy Liner in Cabernet to go with it. For lighter options, I packed a lighter nude, a darker nude and a pink. For the lighter nude I picked Milani Nude Creme, it goes with basically anything. For the darker nude I packed Milani’s Pretty Natural. It’s a rosy-brown nude, which is really on trend for fall. For my pink option I packed MAC’s Angel with Gerard Cosmetics Butter Cream to go on top.

So there you have it, this is what went in my travel makeup bag for thanksgiving weekend! Let me know in the comments below what your travel staples are!

Bye for now!
