I spent the month of March trying to re-love products that are pretty untouched in my collection. I’ll admit that some of these products were a complete fail and in all it wasn’t a great month for discovering ‘old’ things. But I did really confirm what my makeup style is so I suppose that’s a positive of this challenge. Anyway, I promised an update here it goes! If you missed the original post, click here!
NYX Studio Liquid Liner
Well this post is beginning on a negative note…sorry! I retried this product in March because I used to love it, but then picked up gel liner and left this behind. I seriously hated this. I have no nicer way to put it. I have no idea why I originally liked this honestly. It’s way more difficult to apply than gel liner and it applies super shiny, which isn’t great for defining your lashline. It’s maybe not entirely this product’s fault, just that I like gel liner much better.
Verdict: Leave it
NYX Butter Glosses
I tried to make myself pick up lip glosses more in the month of March and although I still gravitated to matte lips more, I did really like the look of the Butter Glosses when I wore them. They make your lips look plump, but they aren’t sticky, which is a bonus with a windy spring and long hair. At $5 I definitely recommend these glosses. They offer tons of shades and they are really good quality
Verdict: Love it
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
This product was really a bummer for me. I want nothing more than to enjoy this, but I really don’t. I can’t use this on it’s own first off, since it doesn’t have any good transition or matte crease colours, so that’s the first negative. Second, I just find when I do use this I really don’t like how my eye makeup turns out. I was dragging myself to use this. This is a true statement to the fact that my makeup style has changed. This was the first Naked Palette I bought, the one I liked most out of the 3 and now it’s my least favourite. I love warm shades and this is just not flattering for my skintone or my eye colour. The shades swatch beautifully, but on they just miss the mark.
Verdict: Leave it
Nars Virtual Domination Cheek Palette
I included this cheek palette in my Bought it, Forgot it so I could figure out why I never pick this up. I wanted it so bad and then it never became a holy grail item. I definitely found more love for this palette in March. I already loved Laguna, but I also really enjoyed Deep Throat blush in the month of March. Although I will likely never use the highlight since it’s straight up glitter, this is a nice collection of blushes. Although I did use this more this month, it’s something that is still on my list to play with more.
Verdict: (Learning to) Love it
Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb
I said in my original post that I wore this a lot when I first got it in a holiday set and then I set it aside for a long time. This is a really pretty shade and I love it as an every day pink, but it does have a drawback. This is a plumper, so it burns, which I’m actually fine with. The real problem is that this turns all around my lips red whenever I use it. I’m not sure if it’s an allergy or what, but it ends up looking weird. I love how plump my lips look, but the red ring around my lips takes away from it.
Verdict: Love it, but Allergic?
Nars Orgasm Blush
I was giving this product one last shot in the month of March and sadly, it’s time is up. I still can’t pinpoint exactly why I don’t like this, but it just doesn’t look good on me. It might be the shimmer (lots of it), it really accentuates the texture on my face or maybe just the tone of it. Whenever I wore this, I ended up putting something else on top. Moral of the story here is, just because something’s popular does not mean it works for everyone. I think I’m going to find someone to pass this along to.
Verdict: Gave in to the hype and it didn’t work out
I did have one additional product in my original post (L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe), but I really didn’t give it a fair shot so I’m not including it in this post for fairness.
So there you have it! It really wasn’t a great success, but I now have a better idea of the kinds of products to spend on and which ones to skip based on my taste. I think when you’re newly getting serious about makeup, you don’t really have a style yet, so you might have some misses along the way. I’m much better now at navigating the makeup aisles.
I can’t decide whether or not to do another Bought it, Forgot it for April, but if I do, I’ll have another post for that.
Bye for now!
