MAC Lip Pencil Collection and Swatches: 2015

June 10, 2015

Hi Everyone!

Lately I have been obsessed with lip liners, probably even more than lipsticks. I just love defining my lips, I feel like I can really shape them and make them look their best. My lips aren’t my favourite feature, but lip liner allows me to correct where I want. I really don’t know what it is about MAC lip liners, but these are the ones I gravitate towards. It’s probably because they have a wide variety of shades for me to choose from. Today I’m going to show you what I’ve gathered in my collection so far and my thoughts on the shades, formulas etc.

As of right now, I have collected 8 lip liners, mainly of the regular formula, but also 1 of the Pro Longwear formula and the Creamstick formula.

Spice- Spice is a newer addition to my collection. It’s a warm light brown, nude. This would be perfect for fall and it looks beautiful with peachy lipsticks. When I pair this with a peachy nude it’s the perfect shade to add definition to the outside of my lips but it compliments the lipstick perfectly. It’s very warm, but not orange.

Pairs Well With: Nars Audacious Lipstick in Raquel

Subculture- Subculture is a traditional, tan nude shade. I needed a basic nude pencil because when I wear nude lips I can look a little washed out and this is just enough to make sure my lips don’t look blanked out.

Pairs Well With: MAC Lipstick in Blankety

Soar- Soar is a deep mauve-brown shade. This shade will be perfect for darker fall nudes, although I’ve worn this this spring. I didn’t think I could wear shades like this since I’m so fair, but I can still pull it off. Of course this kind of becomes a statement lip on me rather than a nude but I still really love this.

Pairs Well With: MAC Lipstick in Fanfare or on it’s own.

Edge to Edge- Edge to Edge is probably my favourite MAC pencil. It’s blue-toned light mauve-pink that is almost a ‘my lips but better type of shade’ I initially bought this just because I liked the shade, but this is so versatile. I wear this pretty often as an every day pink, but it also looks great with a nude lipstick to add a little colour as well. If you’re going to pick up any MAC pencils, I highly recommend this one.

Pairs Well With: Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Nude Creme, NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Beige

Pink Treat- Pink Treat is the Creamstick formula, rather than MAC’s traditional pencil line. This formula is much creamier than their regular pencils and it’s retractable as well. This is a deep rose-brown shade that will pair well with a fall smokey eye.

Pairs Well With: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina

Beet- Beet is a pink-toned red, berry shade. When I picked this up I didn’t have any idea of how many lipstick shades this would go with. It goes with purples, light pinks, reds etc. I don’t really like this shade on me on it’s own (no idea why), but I love mixing this with a light pink to create a light berry lip colour.

Pairs Well With: MAC Lipstick in Pink Plaid, Nars Audacious Lipstick in Janet

Cherry– Cherry is a new pencil to my collection, but one I should have had from the beginning. This is the most classic red shade and a staple in any makeup collection. I really like cool toned reds and this fits that perfectly. I don’t reach for red lips that often, but when I do this is the kind of red I like. This is also great for mixing to create new shades. Out of all the MAC pencils (from the regular line) I’ve tried, this has the creamiest formula.

This looks great on it’s own and it’s creamy enough to wear all over your lips.

Shock Value– Shock Value is from MAC’s Pro Longwear line and it definitely lives up to those claims. This is significantly longer lasting than the regular formula, which is perfect for such a bright shade. I am completely obsessed with this shade, it makes me feel so confident when I wear it.They now make a Candy Yum Yum pencil that is similar to this, but I chose this one instead. It was cooler toned and also in the pro longwear formula, which is a bonus.

Pairs Well With: MAC Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum

So there you have it! I hope this was helpful for anyone considering picking up some MAC lip pencils. I always look up swatches since the ones on the MAC website are pretty inaccurate. If there are any shades I should pick up, let me know in the comments!

Bye for now!

Chelsey

The only MAC lip pencil I have so far is Edge to Edge. I like pairing it with my MAC lipstick in Pure Zen.

Don’t worry I didn’t either for a long time. Once I started to realize how much better they make everything look and I was hooked!

do they really?! as in lasting power or the overall appearance of the lipstick?

They just make your lip line look so much cleaner and pulled together. My pro long wear pencil definitely prolongs the lipstick wear. I just love the look of lined lips.

Edge to edge definitely looks like my type of color! I haven’t used a lip liner in so many years, though..All that comes to mind is the overdrawn trend of the 90’s since that’s when I was used to seeing it! But I think with a color like that it would be so easy to blend.
Now if I can just get past the thick line of the past and get my courage up to give it a try!

    • Reply Chelsey June 11, 2015 at 2:30 pm

It’s a great shade! The 90s were famous for that awful thick unblended dark line. I can’t stand that look and I have relatives who still do it. Definitely give this a go! To make everything look more seamless you can always shade in the edges to make it blend better!
