I, (like everyone else it seems) have been obsessed with liquid lipsticks for a while now. So for my birthday I decided to treat myself and I planned on making an Anastasia Beverly Hills order. I have wanted to try their liquid lipsticks for many months, but their shipping to Canada is so expensive. I went to go make my order, only to find that many of the shades I wanted were out of stock. If I was going to pay for flat rate shipping, I wanted to make sure I got all the shades I was interested in to make it worth my while. I decided that what I really wanted wasn’t in stock and decided to pick up some other, less expensive liquid lipsticks instead. I made an order on Beauty Joint for 3 of the LA Splash Liquid Lipsticks. 2 are the Smitten Lip Tint formula and one is the Lip Couture formula. What’s the difference? Basically nothing, but I’ll get to that.
The shades I chose are Charmed, OG Ghoulish and Ravenclaw.
Charmed (Smitten Lip Tint)
I have been wearing this one a ton. It’s the perfect every day kind of colour that goes with basically anything. It comes across pretty cool toned on my lips, like a cool toned dusty rose.
OG Ghoulish (Lip Couture)
This is definitely a different kind of shade for me. I know the grey lip trend isn’t for everyone, but I wanted to try it for myself. Even though I was curious, I was slightly concerned that this might make me look dead, but I think with the right eye look (something dark and smokey) this would look really cool. Side note, this is called OG Ghoulish because they have had a few different formulations of this shade that changed the colour slightly so they used OG to identify which formulation this was.
Ravenclaw (Smitten Lip Tint)
I picked up this shade more for the fall months to replace my Lime Crime Wicked that I won’t wear anymore. I love a dark lip for fall and winter and this is perfect for that. It looks a little patchy in the swatch, but it doesn’t translate like that on the lips. This is extremely similar to Wicked, the only difference is that this is a little more wine-burgundy toned and ever so slightly less red. On the lips they look basically the same. If you’re looking for a dupe, this is a great option. Plus the name is awesome. I just had to throw that out there.
In terms of formula, these are very good out of all the liquid lipsticks I’ve tried. It feels like nothing on the lips, it isn’t tacky and it never gets uncomfortably dry. My lips did feel a little dry after wearing these for a few days in a row, but not very dry by any means. These occasionally have a slight paint smell, but I didn’t find it stuck around or was particularly strong.
Like I mentioned earlier I did end up with 2 different formulas by LA Splash, but they are very similar. The only differences I’ve found is that the Couture formula is slightly runnier and just needs a good shake before using. The Couture also has a larger doefoot applicator than the Smitten Lip Tints. Other than that, they are exactly the same. They feel and wear the same.
These last a long time on my lips. If I’m not eating or drinking, these look identical when I take it off as they did when I put them on. If I am eating, they will wear, but I always seem to still have colour on my lips. I’m pretty impressed with how these wear.
These were $13.98 USD from Beauty Joint, which is slightly cheaper than most liquid lipsticks. With the Canadian dollar being low right now, they weren’t dirt cheap or anything, but these were still on par with current drug store prices for a similar product.
In all, I’m really enjoying these. I think it will take some courage to wear OG Ghoulish outside the house, but I’ll get there. The other 2 are right up my alley and I know I’ll get a lot of wear of out them.
After purchasing these I learned that LA Splash recently had a serious fire that destroyed a lot of their facility and put many employees out of work, which is really sad and unfortunate. They are an up and coming brand with some great products to share so I really hope they are able to get back on their feet. If some of the shades are out of stock or hard to come by, this is likely why.
Have you tried anything from LA Splash? Let me know in the comments!
Bye for now!
