Today I will be reviewing a new product that I have been excited to try since the second it was announced. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation immediately caught my attention and I finally got my hands on it. I have been testing this out for a while now, so let’s get to the review.
The packaging on this foundation is really cute, but not super practical in my opinion. This is a glass jar which I’m fine with, but it also has a dropper style applicator, which I’m not a huge fan of. I just find that I don’t ever get a consistent amount of product each time I use this. Some times I get a ‘pump’ of product and other times it’s only one small drop. I think pumps are a lot easier to use and the dropper is just not practical to me.
Coverage and Shade
I often find that foundations that advertise themselves as lightweight, water foundations have very light coverage. This on the other hand, has excellent coverage while still feeling like nothing on the skin. With 2 full drops of this, I am more than content with how this looks in terms of coverage. As for shades, it seems like they have catered to neutral and warm undertones and not to cool undertones at all. I am pretty cool toned, but the shade Fair Neutral matches me surprisingly well. The shade range doesn’t extend anything beyond medium skin tones, which I do find frustrating. Why come out with a shade range that excludes people? To me if you’re releasing a new product, all skin tones should be able to use it or don’t release it.
When I initially saw this foundation and its claims, I was definitely expecting a dewy finish. This is definitely matte and not dewy, which I am a little disappointed by. I still don’t find the foundation to look flat or heavy, but it doesn’t leave any glow on it’s own.
This blended out really easily, but did take a bit longer to set than I’m used to, As it was setting I did notice that if I accidentally touched my face, it would pick up the foundation. After it set, I did not notice any transferring. Once it set my skin felt super soft and not remotely heavy feeling. It looks extremely natural on the skin, which is awesome especially since it still gave me plenty of buildable coverage.
In all, I really do like this foundation. I get the kind of coverage I like, yet it looks super natural and feels weightless. I do wish this was more dewy, but I can always add glow with primer and highlighter. For natural days this will definitely be my go-to or for days when I just don’t want the feel of makeup. This does have SPF, so I likely won’t be wearing it for photos, but for everyday, I really like this.
Have you tried out this foundation? What were your thoughts on it?
Bye for now!
