First Impression: Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara and Lash Volumizing Powder

July 1, 2014

Hey Everyone!

Happy Canada Day! I’m here today with a first impression. I recently picked up the Essence I love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara and the Essence Lash Volumizing Powder and since these are both new products to me I decided to see how it went and share that with you. Initially I was just going to do this first impression the the Lash Volumizing powder, but since the mascara is new to me as well I figured that it would go together nicely. Alright, now onto the review.

Okay so here is my eye with nothing. No eyeliner or anything, just so you can see my natural lashes.

So what I did was do one eye with the mascara and the volumizing powder and one eye with equal coats of mascara, but no powder so you could see the difference, if there is any.

The Product

The product’s texture is like stiffer cotton fluffs and feels a bit spongy. It comes out of the container a bit clumpy which I don’t think helps with distributing the product onto the wand.

Application

The instructions for this product say to dip the wand into the container to pick up the powder. After some research I opted not to do that, as people said it just put way too much powder onto your lashes and made them clumpy. I decided to pour some onto a paper towel and roll the wand into it to pick up the product. The product did not distribute evenly, as you can see in the picture above and no matter how many times I tried, certain areas of the brush just did not collect anything. Despite that I carried on and curled my lashes and added one coat of mascara. Immediately I went in with the powder wand and attempted to brush the fibres onto my wet lashes. They mainly went flying everywhere, so I don’t think much went onto my actual lashes. I then ‘sealed’ it with another coat of mascara. I didn’t really see much difference, so I tried adding another coat of mascara and that seemed to add more volume than the powder did.

Here is with and without the volumizing powder:

From this, I only see very slight differences and I think that’s more related to my actual lashes then the powder. From a distance the differences wouldn’t even be noticeable.

Is it worth the extra step? I suppose that would be personal preference and for it me it’s definitely not worth it. Additionally, the eye with the powder became itchy as I wore this and I removed it shortly after so I don’t think I’d be using this again even if it did make a big difference.

Verdict: For me, this product is a skip. I don’t think it does enough to take the extra step and if I wore this for a whole day I think my eyes would be incredibly irritated.

*After removing this product my eye was kind of itchy and then downright irritated and still is a day later. And I only wore it for less than 1 hour.

The Mascara

Image

Okay so the photo on the right is just three coats of the I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara and I have to say that I really like this mascara. It gives me great volume, but also separation and length as well. Plus the price of $3.99 is an enormous bonus. My only knock against it is that because it has a huge wand, you do have to take some time if you’re going to use this on your bottom lashes to make sure that you don’t get it under your eye. You can see that it’s a little clumpy in the picture above. I honestly wouldn’t care about using another mascara for my bottom lashes because I like the look of this so much. Now you guys know that I love my Benefit They’re Real, but this is considerably cheaper and I think this gives a very similar look. For the $25 difference, I will be picking this up from now on. It is a fairly wet formula, so if you like drier mascara, I don’t think you would like this. I did find that it got on my eyelid as I moved to do my bottom lashes, but it didn’t really bother me since it can be removed easily once it’s dry. I also wore this all day today and I did not experience any flaking or smudging.

Removal

The removal of this was very easy, I used a makeup removing cloth and got 90% of it in 2 swipes. A better makeup remover would have easily gotten all of it.

Verdict: 100% a buy! This is totally worth $3.99 and beyond.

So there you have it! 2 first impressions in one! I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know in the comments below if you have tried either of these products and what you thought.

Bye for now!
