August 2014 Favourites

September 3, 2014

Hey Everyone!

So I changed my mind about doing a favourites post. I looked through my makeup and I did have some clear favourites to share so here I am! If I wait until the end of this month, this post will be a mile long, so better to share now.

If you’ve been reading for even a short while, you might remember my USA haul from a few weeks ago, many of the products I’m completely obsessed with are from my haul. I picked up some great stuff.

Real Techniques Brushes

L to R: contour brush, powder brush, setting brush.

My collection of RT brushes is growing. Early last month, I noticed there were some holes in my brush collection that I needed to fill but inexpensively. I decided to pick up some RT brushes to fill in a few of the gaps. My old powder brush was a really dense, massive Ecotools brush that was well past it’s prime. It was just too dense and taking up way too much room, so I ordered a new powder brush from RT to replace the Ecotools brush. This powder brush is amazing, I’m so obsessed with it. I don’t actually wear powder, but I use this for bronzer. Before I contour I like to bronze my skin to bring colour back to my face and add dimension. This is the perfect density for that. It sweeps bronzer on without packing it on and I can easily buff it out with this. Plus this brush (and any RT brushes I’ve tried) are so insanely soft.

I also have been developing an unhealthy obsession for the RT Contour Brush. This was part of a kit that contains some brushes I don’t really really love, but the set is worth it for this. This brush is the perfect size to place a defined contour, yet dense enough for me to also use it for blending my contour out so it’s seamless. I was using an ELF Bronzing Brush before this, but this is sooo much better.

The last RT brush I’ve developed a love affair with is the RT Setting Brush. I decided to pick this up for applying highlighter. I was finding that my fan brush just wasn’t giving me enough impact so I needed something smaller and denser to place the product more precisely. This works perfectly for that and really gives me targeted placement which is exactly what I wanted it to do. I also use this for setting my under eye area with the ABH Contour Kit. It does a great job with that as well, picks up enough product to set and brighten but it doesn’t cake it on. This little brush is so multipurpose!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Brush #12

Keeping on the topic of brushes, my next favourite has revolutionized my brow game. Wow that sounds seriously dramatic, but it is completely true. When I reviewed the Dipbrow Pomade, this brush was suggested to me a few times in the comments as a perfect pairing with the Dipbrow, so I decided to bite the (expensive) bullet and pick it up on my trip. This is so worth it. The brush has a spoolie on one end and the perfect angled brow brush on the other. The spoolie is a must have with the Dipbrow, so I love having it conveniently attached to my brow brush. The brow brush end is everything a brow brush should be, it’s thin yet stiff and dense. It’s able to fill in tiny gaps in my brows, yet it doesn’t bend when I’m brushing the product through. Since the Dipbrow is such an intense product, you really do need a good brush so that it’s not complete overkill.

ABH Dipbrow Pomade

This favourite shouldn’t come as a surprise considering what I just mentioned but my love for the ABH Dipbrow is growing. I liked it as first, but now my brows just look so undone without it. I have pretty full brows on my own, but this just polishes them and makes them look finished. I wear the shade Soft Brown, which seems to meld with my own eyebrow hairs to make a perfect match. I have a complete review on it that I linked above, so I won’t repeat myself, but just know that it is amazing.

Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Correctors

My next favourite I actually got from the lovely Victoria (LivingDisrobed) in a huge giveaway she ran during the month of July. This is a concealer palette with 5 different shades to choose from. Rather than just 5 different skin tones, it has several correcting shades, which I’m loving. It has an ivory shade that matches me perfectly, a green shade for neutralizing redness and helping to cover blemishes, a purple shade that is perfect for brightening, 1 darker toned concealer that I could use on some of my friends who are darker than me and a shade that will be perfect for cream contouring. These are so creamy, they blend on the skin like a dream and they don’t crease on me, which I’m thrilled about. I love using the purple shade to really give my under eyes a boost and the green shade to really concealer any scars or blemishes. I have started to use the ivory shade instead of my other concealer and it does a fantastic job of covering darkness. I just blend these with my finger and it works into my skin perfectly, better than with a brush I find.

MAC Paint Pot- Soft Ochre

Keeping on the theme of bases, I have been loving a new eye ‘primer’ over the last few weeks. Mac’s Paint Pot in Soft Ochre is a yellow toned base that is perfect for neutralizing your eyelids and brightening your eyes. This gives my eyeshadows a smooth and creamy surface to stick to and it covers up any of my own eyelid colour or discoloration. A staple for me now!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

This favourite should come as no surprise. I picked up this foundation on my trip after wanting it for so long. It did not disappoint obviously since this is a favourites post. I have not picked up another foundation since getting this. It just gives my skin it’s best look ever. It doesn’t look heavy or cakey, but just enhances my own skin and perfects it. It’s not overly dewy which I don’t really like, but just enough to look radiant. It applies beautifully with both a sponge and a brush and lasts all day. I do have a full review so if you’re interested, you can find it here!

MAC Pure Zen Lipstick with Bite Beauty Deconstructed Rose Lipgloss Library #7

I have been loving one particular lip combo for a few weeks now. I’m finding peach lips to be really flattering with my skin tone and hair colour and I’ve reached for this combo as my everyday neutral quite often. Mac’s Pure Zen lipstick is nice on it’s own but a bit sheer, so layering this peachy-coral gloss over it really makes it pop. I will say that I love the colour of this gloss but I HATE the smell. It’s just very unpleasant. I can’t really identify what it even smells like. I’ll put up with it, since I love the colours this set came with.

Lorac Pro Palette 2

I couldn’t do this favourites post without mentioning my favourite palette for the month. I am in love with this palette. It’s so versatile, I come up with something new every time I use it. I won’t blab on since I did just review it, but if you’re on the fence about this palette, get it, it’s amazing!

It’s a 10 Hair Products

I discovered the It’s a 10 brand this month. I started by picking up the Leave in Conditioner from Ulta that came with a sample of the It’s a 10 Hair Mask. I have really been enjoying the Leave in Conditioner, it really detangles, smooths and smells amazing. Plus the smell stays in my hair which I love and don’t find often. I have very thick hair that has been dry for months now likely due to colouring even though I don’t colour too often. I’ve tried a bunch of different hair masks and treatments including the Moroccan Oil Hair Mask and none of them have ever worked for me. I tried the sample and it made my hair so soft that I had to buy the full size. This makes my hair so soft that I can actually go through it with a comb, That’s huge for me since I usually can’t get a brush through it after I shower. It recommends up to 15 minutes, but I find it works best if you wet your hair and leave it in for a couple hours if you can, then it really detangles and softens. I find that it also helps my hair dry more tamed with less frizz. I’m really impressed with this brand. I’m planning on getting any split ends cut off soon and then using this to maintain healthy hair.

So there are my favourites! Let me know in the comments what you loved in August, I love finding new favourites through all of you!

Bye for now!

They’re very similar, only Painterly is more pink toned and Soft Ochre is more on the yellow side I believe
