I spent this weekend on a trip with my family to the US to do some shopping. Even though our dollar stinks right now it was still an opportunity to take advantage of their lower taxes and pick up some brands that are hard to get here in Canada. We usually go once a year, so I really look forward to it. I picked up some clothing but mainly I saved my money for makeup…of course. We don’t have Ulta in Canada so going there is a special treat for me. So get comfy because when I haul…I haul!
I’ll start with Sephora. I didn’t get loads at Sephora because we can get the majority of brands they carry in Canada. I did save my VIB coupon for this trip, so I did want to pick up a few things to use my coupon.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation- R230
I love the old formulation of this foundation and sadly mine is practically empty. I decided to pick up a bottle of the new formulation so I can compare them and see what I think. I’ve heard good things so we will see. I picked this up in the shade R230, which used to be 115.
Too Faced Love Flush Blush- Baby Love
The packaging totally got me on this one. I mean how cute is that? That aside, this looks like a really nice neutral blush that I’ll get lots of wear out of. I love blush, so this purchase is no shock to me.
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation- Porcelain
I have been curious about this product since it launched so this trip was a great opportunity to try it out. This seems slightly more yellow than most of my foundations so hopefully it matches me okay. The shade selection wasn’t that expansive.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume
Before we crossed the border into the US we stopped at duty free and I picked up my favourite perfume of all time. I am almost out of my current bottle and I don’t want to be without it. This is a fresh scent, but floral and soft. I always get asked what I’m wearing when I wear this. I would say at this point that this is definitely my signature scent.
Ulta has a great selection of hair products, so I picked up some old favourites and some new products to try out.
Batiste Dry Shampoo
This isn’t anything exciting, but I picked up a bottle of Batiste to try out. I was previously using Dove Dry Shampoo but I hate the way it makes my hair smell (it lingers for forever). It seems like everyone and their mother uses and loves Batiste so I picked up a can that came with a free travel size as a bonus. I tried this during the trip and it did an excellent job of giving my hair volume and addressed a bit of greasiness I had. It did leave a slight powdery feeling in my hair, but nothing obnoxious.
Kenra Blow Dry Spay
I picked up a small size of this spray to try out. It’s supposed to protect your hair from heat, help it to blow dry faster while adding shine and smoothing hair. I have trouble finding hair products that are holy grail for me, so I hope this can meet my expectations.
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave in Product
This is one hair product I absolutely have faith in. I purchased this on my trip to the US last year and I loved it. I decided to purchase the big daddy size. This really helps to detangle my hair and keep it soft between washes. Ulta had a promotion so when I purchased this I also got a mini size as a perk.
Joico K-Pak Restorative Styling Oil
The last hair product I picked up was a hair oil that I have borrowed from my mom a few times before. This is great to use on damp hair, but I like it on dry hair to help smooth any frizz and add shine. Since my hair is on the dry side my ends can get a bit frizzy looking, but a small pump of this helps to tame everything.
Now onto makeup. I mainly focused on brands that are hard to get in Canada.
Nyx Lip Liners- Fuchsia, Cabaret, Peekaboo Neutral, Blackberry
I picked up a few NYX lip liners in different shades. NYX is really hard to get and there’s no where around me that sells it, so I definitely wanted to see what they had. There wasn’t a ton that peaked my interest, but the lip liners are pretty cheap and I thought it was an awesome way to add some colours to my collection.
NYX HD Blush- Taupe
I really want to try this for contouring and see if it measures up to the current contour powder I’m using. It looks promising so I’m excited to try this out.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer- Fair Neutral
This is a repurchase for me, I already purchased and used a full size of this. I love this concealer, it has great coverage and the shade is the only one I’ve found that will actually highlight on my fair skin. If you have very fair skin like I do, this is worth the money. I just haven’t found anything else as light as this so I will continue to repurchase it.
IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 1 Matte Eyeshadow Palette
IT Cosmetics is pretty impossible to get in Canada, except on the Shopping Channel so it was definitely on my list to check out. I have been eyeing this palette on and off for a little while and I decided to just get it and test it out for myself. You can really judge the quality of a brand by their matte shadows in my opinion so an all matte palette is a great test. I will definitely be trying out some all matte looks in the near future!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Shadow Couture World Traveler Eyeshadow Palette
Last, but certainly not least I picked up this palette from Anastasia. I’m usually not very interested in their palettes, but something about this one caught my eye. In terms of high end palettes, this wasn’t crazy expensive so that’s a bonus. I picture some really pretty looks with this soon.
Cosmetic Company Outlet
MAC Casual Colour Lip and Cheek Colour- Relaxation
The mall we went to had a CCO so I decided to check it out since I did find some good stuff last year. This year they had a lot more selection and even a ton of stuff from limited edition MAC collections. I didn’t end up getting anything from past collections, but I did pick up a cream blush that caught my eye. This is such a pretty rosy pink shade and I have nothing like it so I thought it was a good purchase. Plus it was only $15 rather than $26, so that’s a great deal.
So there you have it! I did get a couple clothing items, so if you want to see those let me know and I can maybe do a mini clothing haul. Have you tried anything I hauled? Let me know what you think in the comments!
Bye for now!
